Free Enabling Days (around the UK)
Enabling Day Portland College 29th April 2016
Talksense is providing free training in collaboration with Ability-World. The training will comprise four, mini-seminars throughout the day on different aspects of Special Education. During the breaks between presentations an exhibition of Ability-World equipment will be available to view.
The Enabling Day is open to all-comers be you Therapist or Teacher, Parent or Carer, or just an interested Other. Spaces are limited and are offered on a first come, first served basis, so be sure to act now and contact David Weatherburn at Ability-World to book your place. Contact details are provided below.

Mini-Seminar One: Switching Ideas
A few exciting ideas for switch use will be covered during this session with participants having hands on experience with some of the ideas available. Each idea will be demonstrated and explained as well as its educational benefits and implications outlined. The ideas will cover issues such as learner motivation and address some everyday issues in special needs settings. The switch ideas will be suitable for a range of abilities from those experiencing PMLD up to those with milder learning difficulties whom nevertheless need to use a single (or more) switch (es) to access their world.

Mini-Seminar Two: Objects Of Reference and Sensory Cues
What is the difference between a Sensory Cue and an Object Of Reference for those experiencing PMLD? What is best practice and how can current practice be improved? Each will be explained with an emphasis on ideas for the development of both Sensory Cues and OOR in your establishment.

Mini-Seminar Three: Sensory Stories - Design, Development, & Delivery
What is best practice for the design, development, and delivery of a sensory story in a classroom situation for individuals (of any age) experiencing Severe or Profound Learning Difficulties and why? The Sensory Story rules will be outlined together with practical examples of approaches and the equipment that may be utilised.
