A preposition is a part of speech that typically precedes a noun or a pronoun in a sentence and defines its relationship (generally spatial or temporal) to some other word or words. In trying to depict the relatively small number of prepositions and prepositional phrases in English (British and American) I have used a basketball to illustrate the concept together with other items such as a cardboard box. So we might ask, "Where is the basketball in relation to the box?": the response would be the preposition in question: it is inside the box, outside the box, next to box, in front of the box, etc.
- sold or used for any commercial purpose.
- passed on to any other person without permission.
- put into any publication without an acknowledgement of their source.
