SwitchSyms
SwitchSyms are a free resource from TalkSense. Simply download the Word document (I am sorry the SwitchSyms are not available in other formats yet) and print it out. Then select and cut out the SwitchSym that best represents the POLE you are switching using the dotted line as a guide. It will fit perfectly under a JellyBean switch cap (There are Switchsyms for other sizes of switch too!).
Switches should always be used in conjunction with a SwitchSym (there are exceptions to this rule) to help the Learner to:
- discriminate between differential actions of a switch (where the same switch is used
to perform different functions throughout the day);
- discriminate between switches when multiple switches are being used;
- build augmentative communication skills.
Remember, BIGmacks (etc) are switches too and should also be labelled. Use the larger SwitchSyms for this purpose.
Have fun!
