It is to be emphasised that the following are guidelines and should NOT be treated as rules!
Communication Books and Boards shall aim to:
The ideal communication book is a board!
Fringe vocabulary should be outsourced!
|
1. provide the easiest means to the generation of language for a specific individual. 2. provide the quickest means to the generation of language for a specific individual. 3. be transported and accessed by an individual user without assistance. Think size and weight. 4. contain the maximum of locations per page that permits an individual communicator to: - communicate without confusion; - access with ease cognitively, physically and visually; - communicate quickly; - develop future linguistic skills. 5. be arranged and encoded in a manner that is logical to the individual communicator. 6. contain only single entries of any specific item of vocabulary (unless its duplication promotes another guideline.) 7. contain vocabulary that an individual communicator both wants and or needs to say. 8. develop literacy skills. 9. be a tool for language development . 10. be motivational. 11. move toward the reduction to a single ‘master’ communication board from which: - at least 50% of an individual’s communication needs may be met; - all other boards may be called. 12. Outsource other ‘fringe’ vocabulary. |
